The
NewfDB mourns the passing of Stormwatch's
Yacht Katrina, the webmaster's constant companion and the inspiration
for this Web site. She died at her home in Scituate, MA, Saturday,
November 6th, 1999 after a brief illness at the age of 13 years, 1 month
and 12 days. With her were her devoted servants Heather and John,
her aunt Holly, her best friend and student Dudley and the orange steel
food bowl she carried with her everywhere throughout her long and happy
life.
Unlike most of us, Katie realized her lifelong dream ... by becoming a full-time housedog at the tender age of 7. From that day on, she ruled our house with an iron paw, judiciously applied. A working dog in every sense of the word, she threw herself into the task of holding our couch down with a dedication no human could ever match. She tolerated no assistance in this effort. Less than a month before her death, in her last public appearance, Katie participated in the NCNE fall fun match, winning the veteran bitch class and receiving a long standing ovation.
She was a beautiful, strong, gentle animal who embodied all the best traits of her breed. We got more time with her than we deserved or had any right to expect. Still it hardly seems enough.
